The essence of good ethical conduct and practice is summarised below.
All volunteers must:
· Consider the well-being and safety of participants before the development of performance.
· Develop an appropriate working relationship with participants, whether skiers, parents, volunteers, coaches or anyone involved in
the club or Xscape Castleford, based on mutual trust and respect.
· Under the guidance of the coaches ensure all activities are appropriate to the age, ability and experience of those taking part.
· Promote the positive aspects of snowsport (e.g. fair play and support for others).
· Display consistently high standards of behaviour and appearance.
· Follow all guidelines laid down by Snowsport England and Lions Ski Club.
· Hold appropriate valid qualifications and insurance cover (as appropriate). Instructors must be aware of their validation dates.
· Never exert undue influence over performers to obtain personal benefit or reward.
· Never condone rule violations, bad sportsmanship or the use of prohibited substances.
· Encourage participants to value their performances and not just results.
· Encourage and guide participants to accept responsibility for their own performance and behaviour.
· Promote the club in a positive light.
· All volunteers and helpers must sign in on Sunday morning sessions and have a valid CRB check. (This can be obtained through
Lions, please ask a member of the committee for further information).
· Tuition groups under the age of 8 should not exceed a ratio of 1 instructor to 8 pupils. However this ratio can be added to by 50%
if a Trainee instructor is shadowing. (These rules follow Offstead guidance on coaching ratios)
· Over 8 years + pupils can be coached on higher group ratios although it is advised to stick to 8 in a lesson.
· It is strict policy that no instructor can accompany a child to the toilet area. During Sunday Morning Lions sessions a group of
Lions officials will aim to have radio contact with some of the instructors on the slope and convey messages to the viewing area
for parents/guardians to collect there child and deal with this situation if it arises. (This also applies on Monday night race training
for children under the age of 14).
NOTES for parents;
· All persons aged 16 and under must have a parent or guardian present in the viewing/seating area during Lions sessions.
